Introduction
This year has flown by
It only seems like a few weeks ago that I was collating links for the January Issue and now it's almost the end of the year. Where does the time go?!
However, I have enjoyed putting these newsletters together.... and I've learnt a lot about Perch in the process. I hope you have too.
Merry Christmas!
See you in 2018.
News
Perchology Slack
Here's a link to join the new Perchology Slack group. It's a replacement for the Perch Chat Slack group which is closing at the end of the year. Perchology Slack is for the Perch community to chat with other Perch users and should remove any confusion between official support (on the Perch Forum) and community help and discussion.
Code
Admin Theme for Perch CMS
Want to customise the Perch admin? Here's an example style sheet that Mike Garlick created to provide a greater visual distinction between blocks and repeaters.
This would be a good starting point for customising the Perch admin with a client's brand colours (over and above the header colour Setting).
How Do I?
Use Attributes to Customise Pages
Two examples are described in this post. Using page attributes to include a message bar on a specific page. And restricting access to a page when it's in development so that only you can access the page and other visitors get directed to another page.
Writing Perch Templates in Pug
I was using a HTML preprocessor on a non-Perch project and I started wondering whether using one to write Perch templates would be a worthy addition to my Perch workflow. So I decided to try using Pug (previously known as Jade), because why not?!
Site Examples
24 Ways. Web design and development articles and tutorials for Advent
Built with Perch Runway and with CSS Grid. This is a super example of new layout methods. And with some great articles of course!
ZAM Bergstrasse
ZAM is a shared practice and an education institute for alternative practitioners to be. Besides being fully Perch powered (navigation, content, pulling content from other pages) the site uses the Perch Members App for password protected access to and secure downloads of course materials. As always, it was a breeze training the client on managing their site’s content with Perch.
Nice work by Feuerwasser.
